People want to know ways to keep healthy and fit. We all have those extra bits that we need to have on us at all times. However, it can be difficult to fit into those designer clothes and slim waist pants. The problem is that many people do not get enough exercise and eat too much junk food. Here are 5 ways to keep healthy without going broke.
Have ample sleep. Having ample sleep is probably one of the hardest things to accomplish in busy modern society, but the necessity of getting enough sleep cannot be overstated. For adults, the recommended amount of sleeping time is seven to nine hours (source). When you take into account the amount of daytime exercise you perform and the quality time you have with your family, you are significantly more likely to fall asleep quickly and to be able to stay asleep for a longer period of time. When you go to bed at night, your body is very tired and you need to give it the opportunity to rest.
Try sitting up instead of lying down for your breakfast. Most people spend the first half of the day sitting on the couch or in bed. It is very difficult to start off each day in an active way, especially if you are used to sitting on the couch or bed throughout the day. Consistent sitting ups helps you get into a regular sitting position for the first half of the day, which will help you keep your weight in check and your body circulation improved.
Avoid eating too much processed foods. Processed foods, including fast food and prepackaged meals, contain a lot of preservatives and sodium, which can interfere with your sleep. Instead, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole-grain breads and cereals, and lean meats. If you must eat processed foods at night, choose lean cuts of meat, baked potato or a handful of carrots instead of hamburger or hot dog!
Try consuming whole foods in their natural forms. Whole foods include fresh vegetables and fruits as well as whole grains, nuts, and seeds. If you add nuts and seeds to your diet, do so in very small amounts and don’t season them unless they are particularly nutty. Opt for organic whole grains if possible. This is a great way to stay healthy on a budget.
Try walking around your neighborhood or walking through your yard for a few minutes each day. Walking is a great exercise that strengthens your muscles and also gets your blood circulating throughout your body. Walking can be a convenient way to exercise when you have little time to get to the gym or to a park. If you don’t have a lot of time to walk around your neighborhood or through your yard, you could also substitute exercise with playing with your kids or simply singing with your family.
Sleep is also important for good health and is one of the best ways to keep yourself healthy. Lack of sleep not only affects your physical well-being but also can negatively impact your mental health. Try getting a full 8 hours of sleep each night and make sure that you make time for a good night’s sleep. Don’t go to bed right after work or school because you have to stay up late studying or doing something that really takes your mind off work. If you need to, take a nap during the day if possible and make sure to get a good amount of restful sleep each night.
The last of our five ways to keep healthy is exercise. Exercise is not only good for your physical health, it is also a great way to improve your mental health. Walking and other exercise can help you to relax and clear your head of all of those daily stressors. Even just fifteen minutes of exercise each day can do wonders for your mental state. Take some time for yourself every day and reap the many health benefits that can come from regular exercise.
